BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT.

This is a response letter I sent to LA Times columnist Jonah Goldberg, regarding his article “Michelle Obama is Fair Game” (May 26, ’08), where he revisits her comments made in February, 2008, that she’d never in her adult life been “really proud” of America until the nation embraced her husband’s hope-and-change campaign. Her husband has been defending her against critics and the press by telling them to “lay off my wife”. Mr. Goldberg says Michelle Obama has a “gloomy opinion of America, a country apparently full of desperate and isolated people”. He feels that if she is out there on the campaign trail making speeches, she is fair pundit fodder. He closes by saying that “if I don’t like what she has to say, I reserve the right to say so, whether her husband finds it acceptable or not”.
I think it’s really important to send letters to newspapers who try to throw monkey wrenches into Obama’s campaign. We know how strong the media can be. We need to be stronger. If you have a clear opinion, express it. Keep it short if you’d like it printed. Send your name, address and telephone number along with the article, so they can call you for factchecking before they print your article. In this case, Jonah Goldberg’s email is jgoldberg@latimescolumnists.com...or I’d welcome any responses here at this blog.

RE: MICHELLE OBAMA IS FAIR GAME

I don't know what America you live in, but the rest of
us all understood what Ms. Obama meant when she spoke
of being "really proud" of America for embracing her
husband's campaign. It is quite amazing that Barack
Obama's straight-no-chaser powerspeak seems to
resonate beyond color, economic and age lines. Why?
Because we're so sick and tired of being gouged and
lied to for so long. I know a visionary's wife when I
see one, too. She has a job ahead of her, and no doubt
will need as much positive reinforcement as we can
give. For the first time since JFK, I, too, am
"really proud" of those of us Americans who recognize
a well read, well spoken, compassionate and thoughtful
LEADER when we see, hear, and read one NO MATTER WHAT
COLOR HE IS OR ISN'T. For once, I'm proud to call
myself an American when abroad. For once I actually
WANT to be involved in shaping the outcome of a
Democratic campaign (fundraising, phonebanking, etc.).
We, the people, realize that yes, TOGETHER, we CAN
wrestle our country back from the abysmal
Rove/Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld derailment that pimped our
democracy and constitution while their coffers bulged.
If you have nothing positive to say about the Obama
Family, keep it to yourself. Big Change is in the
air and you'll want to be a part of it.
